Spring Planting

The Conservancy has been busy in the park this spring planting many shrubs along the riverbanks and several beautiful new trees. All of this work is guided by our shrub and tree master plans, both developed by landscape designer Jennifer Ryan to restore and improve the park in the spirit of its original design. Conservancy volunteers under Jennifer’s direction worked on both sides of the river at the Oakland bridge and on the banks near Oakview. Beautiful new trees, including dogwood, lacebark pine, and bald cypress, add to the canopy. For Arbor Day, the Park View Neighborhood Association, who have adopted the Valley St. border, partnered with us to plant a dogwood there. Tree planting would not be possible without the expert help of the Maplewood DPW under Mike Horan, and we are always grateful to them! Many of these efforts are funded by the Maplewood Open Space Trust Fund. Come out to the park to see the results!
