Fall Is In the Air

We’ve had a busy summer of maintenance in the park, with our wonderful Weeding Wednesday crew (Seamus, Mark, Isabella, Susannah, and Bonnie, led by Lara and Jennifer), joined this season by CHS YouthNet interns Jason and Noah. We are so grateful to them for all of their hard work during this very hot season! In addition to pruning, weeding, and tackling invasives, we’ve been clearing sites in preparation for fall planting. We’ll be planting many shrubs as part of our large, multi-year shrub replacement program, generously funded by the Maplewood Open Space Trust Fund. The community is always welcome to help out, stay tuned to these pages and our social media for more details.

In addition, we will be partnering with the Maplewood Garden Club, which received a grant from the Garden Club of New Jersey to enhance the playground area with native trees. A festive planting event is planned for October 14.

We are excited to say that we’ve also spent the summer planning our very first publication — a field guide to the park’s wonderful flora and fauna. Details to come!

See our events listing for news about our lineup of fall public programs!
