ANNUAL MEETING OF THE CONSERVANCY
APRIL 29 AT 7 PM
Join us via Zoom
Please join us for a short recap of all we’ve accomplished in the park this past year and a look ahead at our future plans! Bring your questions and ideas for what you would like to see in our beloved park! All members in good standing can vote at the meeting on the following:
2026 Candidates for Officers of the Board of Directors
Deborah Lyons, Candidate for Chairperson
Deborah Lyons is the current Chair of the Maplewood Memorial Park Conservancy board. She has volunteered for much of her thirty-five years as a Maplewood resident, as a founding member of the Springfield Avenue Partnership and its first director, and on many boards and community organizations. Deborah is an art historian and has worked as a curator, writer and editor. She is also a Master Gardener and is passionate about native plants. As chair, she has enjoyed working with so many talented professionals and volunteers on the Conservancy’s restoration projects.
Gary Nelson, Candidate for Vice Chairperson
Gary Nelson has been a resident of Maplewood for over 40 years, and has been actively involved in community activities for a majority of that time. He served as a member of the Ad hoc Committee which formed the Maplewood Historic Preservation Commission (MHPC) and has served on the Commission for twenty-five years. He was a founding member of the Open Space Trust Fund (OSTF) Committee and is currently serving as the Chair. Gary was a member of the steering committees for the development of the Master Plan elements for OSTF and for the Maplewood Memorial Park Conservancy (MMPC). He was a founding member of the MMPC and currently serves as Vice Chair. Gary has a professional background in Marketing and Communications.
Mary Schall, Candidate for Secretary
Mary Schall has been an admirer of the Maplewood Memorial Park and its distinctive character since 1995. As a resident of Maplewood since 1998, from Salter Place to Prospect St, and now Dunnell Rd, she can be now found there daily, walking her rescue hound Beebe, observing river and park conditions and the on-going activities. Missing her garden on Prospect St., she has enjoyed joining the Maplewood Memorial Park Conservancy, Trash Pandas and volunteering for various park functions. With the perspective of her career in interior design, project management, and interest in Historic Preservation she is looking forward to a closer working relationship with MMPC.
Matt Brehm, Candidate for Treasurer
Matt Brehm has been a fan of the park since he and his family moved to Maplewood in 2015 and you can find him there most days walking his two dogs. Matt is CFO for Cambridge Information Group, an investment firm focused on education and information services, and is a CPA licensed in the state of New York. He is also an active member of the Maplewood Community Garden.
